Spotlight on Partnerships

National Wildlife Federation logoNational Wildlife Federation relationship with MWDI initiated.
Funding for 25 wood duck box kits to be provided to facilitate participation in youth-oriented wildlife educational forums.

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) mission is “Inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future.” Attracted by MWDI’s initial efforts to develop its youth-oriented educational activities and its other accomplishments, NWF agreed to provide funding for box kits which are not initially dedicated or immediately allocated to defined project sites.  MWDI typically coordinates its lumber procurement, cutting and assembly to achieve maximum operational efficiency and minimum volunteer time. This approach has hindered MWDI’s ability to pursue or respond favorably to various youth group inquiries to assemble boxes on their preferred time lines.

With NWF’s support, MWDI will now have some box kits it can use more opportunistically in this regard.  For example, MWDI & NWF participated in the Chestertown Wildlife Exhibition & Sale Youth Fair in October in Kent County, jointly hosting a box building segment for children of all ages.

MWDI is honored that the NWF has chosen to work with MWDI. The NWF is recognized as one of the pre-eminent wildlife conservation organizations. Its Ranger Rick magazine is especially well known with a circulation of over 3 million. MWDI welcomes the opportunity to develop other youth-oriented activities with NWF linked to our “best practices” approach to artificial nesting programs and “total wetland experience” theme.  For more information on NWF, please go to its website:  www.nwf.org and for local Maryland activities, contact Dan Wrinn (WrinnD@nwf.org).
