Congratulations! The winners will each receive a signed,
remarked and framed print of Autumn Glory by Jim Taylor
which won the Maryland’s 2007-2008 state duck stamp
competition.
Dave’s photo won because of its “painting like,
impressionistic” image depicting the entire wood duck
family. It's somewhat of a rarity to capture the hen with
her duckling brood in tow as well as the drake all together
at this stage.
Alex’s photo of his brother Max and the other scouts clearly
captured and effectively depicted what has become a
relatively routine youth oriented involvement in MWDI wood
duck box construction which distinguished it enough to win
the youth category interim prize.
Several other
pictures in each category were selected as “finalists” and
these will compete with other pictures to be submitted for
the October 2008 final awards. Honorable mention awards have
also been designated for 15 pictures and these
photographers will receive a miniature wood duck casting provided by
Ducks Unlimited. A four person committee, including three MD DNR staff
members, selected the finalists and a majority vote was used to
determine the winners.
MWDI’s photo contest continues and we encourage you to submit
you photos. We have two additional Autumn Glory prints to award in
October. Please take a look at all the finalist and honorable mention
photos for ideas! MWDI thanks all who have participated. |
