Spotlight on Volunteers

Maryland State Envirothon - June 2008

100 high school students competing in the 2008 Maryland Envirothon assembled 33 wood duck boxes on June 18th at the Harford Glen Environmental Center. This was the second year in which MWDI has participated in the Envirothon, which has graciously provided funding for the lumber and supplies. The boxes will be put to good use on various MWDI public project sites across Maryland.

Special thanks to DU's Jason Schlosser, Nate Smith, Chip Heaps and Scott Jasion and to the MD DNR and Envirothon staff who also assisted in supervising the assembly teams.

Following a brief wood duck presentation, teams from each of the 20+ high schools rotated in three 20-minute sessions to assemble and then "decorate" the boxes.
